treadmill 1 mile 7:02, 3 min rest, 1 mile 6:55, 2 mile cooldown
I easily got enough situps for the Army test. Unfortunately, the mile intervals were harder than they should have been if I'm planning on running 2 miles in 13:30. In fact, I was going to do 3 intervals, but my heart wasn't in the last one, so I bagged it. I was home alone with Ben, who really shouldn't be left alone for more than a few minutes, so it was a bit of a disjointed workout anyway.
If I want to meaningfully improve this year, I need to get serious about two things - my diet, and higher intensity running (both tempo and intervals).
Last night was my daughter's Girl Scout Pinewood Derby. It was our first time trying this, and we used a $15 car kit from Michael's Crafts. My daughter ended up getting 4th place! She won three races in a row, and then lost one so she dropped into the loser's bracket. She one another to get into the final four, but lost the last race so she ended just out of the money. It was cute because she is so laid back about everything, but she ended up really wanting a trophy (who wouldn't? I was really hoping she would get one too). All in all, it was a lot of fun.

I think it might be time to start seeing how "young" you can max out on these.
ReplyDeleteAnd the derbies are a blast. But there is a layer of killing these (competitive) that gets really geeky engineering types super competitive.
Agreed, I was thinking the same thing. The numbers don't drop too much each year you age. It's not unreasonable to get to the point you can max out 5 years below your current age.
